A distinguished career diplomat, Mr. Hamidon was appointed Permanent Representative in 2005, having previously served as his country’s Ambassador to Indonesia (2003-2005), High Commissioner to Singapore and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.




(Media-Newswire.com) - Hamidon Ali, Permanent Representative of Malaysia, was elected Chairman of the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) on 24 May. (See Press Release GA/10597.)



A distinguished career diplomat, Mr. Hamidon was appointed Permanent Representative in 2005, having previously served as his country’s Ambassador to Indonesia (2003-2005), High Commissioner to Singapore and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.



Prior to those postings, Mr. Hamidon held several positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Undersecretary for Economics, Principal Assistant Secretary for Maritime and the Environment, and Principal Assistant Secretary for the Inspectorate.



He has also worked as Minister Counsellor at Malaysia’s Embassy in Japan, First Secretary at the Embassy in China and Second Secretary at the Embassy in France.



Mr. Hamidon has a master’s degree from Harvard University and holds various national honours, including the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (2001) and the Kesatria Mangku Negara (1995). In 1994, he was named a Commander of the Order of Bernado O’Higgins by the Government of Chile.



Born on 22 January 1950 in Tangkak, Johor, he is married with two children.
