A one million dollar windfall will be shared between 41 Queensland community groups in the first round of funding for 2008 for the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund. Treasurer Andrew Fraser today announced the recipients of the 60th round of the fund, which vary from riding clubs to rural fire brigades to Drug Arm.
(Media-Newswire.com) - A one million dollar windfall will be shared between 41 Queensland community groups in the first round of funding for 2008 for the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund.
Treasurer Andrew Fraser today announced the recipients of the 60th round of the fund, which vary from riding clubs to rural fire brigades to Drug Arm.
“This financial support helps the recipients carry out their work in the community, which inturn directly helps Queenslanders.
“These community groups deserve to be recognised for their tireless work in their communities across the state
“Some of the successful recipients include the Cleveland-Thornlands cricket club, which will soon have a ride-own mower to care for their cricket pitch.
“The Mooloolaba Volunteer Coastguard will have a new radio and communication equipment to assist with their rescues and the Maryborough Ambulance Committee will have a new defibrillator and monitor which will help them save lives.
“Other projects that recipients will use funding for include the purchases of a new vehicle to transport patients, a bus with a wheelchair hoist, new fire stations for rural firies and renovations on a set of units for a crisis care centre.
“The funding will be directed to projects which will not only benefit the community group, but benefit the community overall.
The Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund has four rounds of grants each year with funding announcements made in March, June, September and December.
Since the fund was established in 1987 with funding sources from a levy placed on the gaming revenue of the Jupiters Gold Coast and Brisbane Casinos, more than $73 million has been distributed to over 2912 projects in South East Queensland.
