North Shore University Hospital today announced the appointment of Vicki LoPachin, MD, as medical director of the 788-bed facility – Long Island’s largest hospital. As medical director, Dr. LoPachin serves as the hospital’s leader of more than 3,200 physicians who have admitting privileges, responsible for overseeing medical affairs, quality management, patient safety issues and standards of care.




(Media-Newswire.com) - North Shore University Hospital today announced the appointment of Vicki LoPachin, MD, as medical director of the 788-bed facility – Long Island’s largest hospital. As medical director, Dr. LoPachin serves as the hospital’s leader of more than 3,200 physicians who have admitting privileges, responsible for overseeing medical affairs, quality management, patient safety issues and standards of care.

A board-certified internist, Dr. LoPachin had been in private practice in New York City. She held several positions at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, including assistant attending physician, medical director of case management and chairman of the utilization review committee.

Dr. LoPachin served as president of the executive board of Mount Sinai’s Association of the Attending Staff. In addition, she was secretary of the board of directors for the Mount Sinai Independent Practice Association, and served on the hospital’s pharmacy and therapeutics, and patient care and quality assurance committees.

Dr. LoPachin was assistant clinical professor in Mount Sinai’s Department of Medicine. She is a member of the American College of Physicians and the New York State Medical Society, as well as medical and pharmacy honor societies.

Dr. LoPachin began her career in 1993 as a medical resident at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she earned her medical degree at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, Houston, TX.

Dr. LoPachin succeeds Peter Walker, MD, who will continue to work part-time at North Shore University Hospital, focusing on projects and initiatives in perioperative services. In conjunction with North Shore-LIJ's Krasnoff Quality Management Institute, Dr. Walker is also working on an exciting, nationwide quality initiative with the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Anesthesia Business Group. They are developing a quality database on anesthesiology cases as part of an effort to promote best practices by capturing clinical outcomes.
