(Media-Newswire.com) - Individual funding of up to $200,000 is available for Queensland businesses to develop innovative technologies that save energy and water, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation, Andrew McNamara, said that applications are open for the 13th round of the Queensland Sustainable Energy Innovation Fund (QSEIF).

“QSEIF funding is available to innovative Queensland businesses to help develop projects that reduce the use of fossil fuels or water, lead to more efficient energy use or enhance the use of renewable energy,” he said.

Mr McNamara said that successful applicants from previous funding rounds demonstrated the remarkable variety of ideas put forward by businesses across Queensland.

“With the help of QSEIF, Ritec Building Solutions’, a Cooroy-based business, will be developing a space-saving rainwater tank.

“The tanks will be built into a structure, rather than added on as an afterthought.

“Another company from Chapel Hill in Brisbane, Anova Solutions Pty Ltd, are working on an innovative pot design to dramatically reduce the amount of water used to grow plants in nurseries.

“Last year, EcoNova Operations Pty Ltd, were successful applicants.

“The Sippy Downs business aims to develop a water treatment system so that grey water can be used for a wide range of household applications.

“And, Selected Seeds, a Pittsworth-based company are developing cutting edge drying technologies to dramatically reduce energy consumption in the seed and grain industries,” Mr McNamara said.

Previous QSEIF funding has already helped develop a range of sustainable technologies including bio-fuels, energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration, solar and wave power, remote area power supply, water heating and road transport.

“Businesses have come up with some great ideas that are helping to address the major challenge of climate change, and are placing Queensland at the forefront of sustainable energy and water innovation.”

Draft applications for QSEIF must be received by 4 July 2008 and proposals which meet requirements must submit a final application by 1 August 2008.

Selected projects are expected to commence in early 2009.
