The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has begun his Mayoralty in a spirit of openness and co-operation by convening a meeting with London's Borough Councils to develop new ways of working together. The meeting was attended by London Councils Chairman, Councillor Merrick Cockell, Deputy Mayor for Government Relations, Ian Clement, and representatives from London's boroughs, who came to City Hall today to join the Mayor and discuss how they could work more closely in the future to deliver the best service for Londoners.
(Media-Newswire.com) - The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has begun his Mayoralty in a spirit of openness and co-operation by convening a meeting with London's Borough Councils to develop new ways of working together.
The meeting was attended by London Councils Chairman, Councillor Merrick Cockell, Deputy Mayor for Government Relations, Ian Clement, and representatives from London's boroughs, who came to City Hall today to join the Mayor and discuss how they could work more closely in the future to deliver the best service for Londoners.
Putting party politics aside, London's top elected representatives enjoyed a constructive meeting and resolved to continue in the same spirit of co-operation and consensus over the coming months and years.
The Mayor said:
‘I want this meeting to mark the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between City Hall and the boroughs. Londoners are looking to us all to deliver real change that improves the quality of life in the capital. The challenges are daunting but I am confident we can achieve them if the Mayor and all of London boroughs work together towards our shared goals.’
Councillor Merrick Cockell said:
“With the boroughs and the Mayor working together, we can harness the vast potential of London’s government to deliver far more for Londoners. Mayor Johnson realises that working closely with us is the key to making our great city even greater, and today’s meeting has laid the foundations for what I am certain will prove to be a successful working relationship.”
