(Media-Newswire.com) - Booking a camp site in Cape York’s national parks has been made even easier by the Newman Government, with a simple new online process.
National Parks Minster Steve Dickson said the system was another part of his focus on making Queensland’s national parks more open and accessible for all residents.
“I want every Queenslander to be able to enjoy our most beautiful natural assets in the easiest, most direct way possible,” Mr Dickson said.
“This new system will help open up Cape York national parks to the world.”
Previously campsites in Cape York parks could only be booked in person through a self-registration process which meant there was no certainty of securing a space ahead of time.
Mr Dickson said Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers would be demonstrating the online booking process at this weekend’s Homeshow and Caravan, Camping and Boating Expo in Cairns.
“Our QPWS rangers will be joined by mascot Herbie (the Herbert River ringtail possum) and will also be promoting caravanning and camping safely in Queensland national parks,” he said.
“Queensland has some of the most beautiful national parks in the world, and rangers can advise on the best places to camp, fish, swim, ride, or just relax and appreciate our unique landscapes and wildlife.
“Some of our wildlife including a baby estuarine crocodile, jungle python, beared dragon, giant tree frog, giant burrowing frog and carpet python will be visiting the booth on Sunday between 10:00am and 2:00pm. This is a great opportunity for kids to connect with nature.
Mr Dickson said QPWS wanted to ensure people had a positive, healthy and enjoyable experience in the state’s parks and would be providing hints and advice on how to do that.
“Herbie and the team will be at the QPWS outdoor booth this Friday June 1 through to Sunday June 3, so come along and say hello,” he said.
The new, easy to navigate system is available online at www.qld.gov.au/camping.
