Board appointments herald new era for Southbank Institute
Education and Training Minister Rod Welford today announced the appointment of members to the new Board of the Southbank Institute of Technology (SBIT). Mr Welford said the appointments completed SBIT's transition to commercial governance.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Education and Training Minister Rod Welford today announced the appointment of members to the new Board of the Southbank Institute of Technology ( SBIT ).
Mr Welford said the appointments completed SBIT’s transition to commercial governance.
“The Board members will focus on building relationships with key industries as part of the institute’s commitment to addressing skills shortages,” Mr Welford said.
“Members of the new Board bring with them a wealth of experience in education, business, industrial relations and community services.
“Their connections in these industries will help keep the lines of dialogue open, informative and mutually productive.
“They will continue to have genuine discussion with the key players in Queensland’s significant growth industries, which will help SBIT become Australia’s leading provider of educational and vocational training over the next five years.”
The seven-member board includes:
hospitality industry expert Ann Garms investment and financial advisor Cheryl McNaught education industry expert Peter Sullivan communications industry consultant Ray Heffernan company director and education industry expert Christopher Burgess industrial advocate Kate Seed. John Puttick, whose career in information technology, education, and community service spans 40 years, has been appointed Chair of the Board.
Mr Puttick is the former Chair of SBIT’s Business Council, which has been acting as the advisory board during the institute’s transition to commercial governance.
Southbank Institute of Technology is the first statutory institute in Queensland’s TAFE network.
It is also the first public training provider in Queensland to take advantage of reforms made in November last year to the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000.
