NEW FACILITY FOR SAILING AND BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION
Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas today opened a new state-of-the-art training centre in Albert Park for sailing and boating called The Boat Shed.
Yachting Victoria established the Boat Shed as a training centre where new sailors and boaters can be introduced to the sport on safe, enclosed waters.

Yachting Victoria established the Boat Shed as a training centre where new sailors and boaters can be introduced to the sport on safe, enclosed waters.
Mr Pallas said the Boat Shed would be integral in introducing more Victorians of all ages and ability to sailing and boating.
“Victorians will now have access to safe and professional training and facilities,” Mr Pallas said.
“The Boat Shed boasts state-of-the-art sailing simulators, big screen plasma TVs and training vessels.
“Special education programs will be offered at The Boat Shed for children, young adults and school groups.”
“The importance of education in staying safe on the water cannot be underestimated. Learning the fundamentals of operating a vessel, safety equipment and being aware of the risks are essential.”
Mr Pallas said as well as creating safer boating environment, The Boat Shed programs would benefit young Victorians socially and physically to be part of a team and learn leadership and planning skills.
Managed by Yachting Victoria, The Boat Shed has been developed in partnership with Parks Victoria, Variety and Marine Safety Victoria.
Programs available through The Boat Shed will include: · Tackers Program – introductory sailing experience for kids with a focus on fun and safety; · Boating Safety for Kids Program – award winning program that focuses on the safety issues with going boating; · Sailability Program – aims to introduce people of all ages and abilities to sailing in a straightforward, fun, inexpensive way in a supportive environment. Anyone with a disability can experience sailing with Sailability; and · Training and accreditation for adults – including accreditation of teachers and outdoor education instructions. “This initiative is the result of several community and government organisations working together in a bid to improve boating safety and facilities,” Mr Pallas said.
