(Media-Newswire.com) - Classical KUSC 91.5 ( FM ), the most listened to public radio station in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, will be expanding its service to include the central coast early next year, according to station president Brenda Barnes.
Barnes said that KUSC, which is licensed to USC, recently was approached by Public Radio Capital regarding the possibility of purchasing KGDP 90.5 ( FM ), which airs from Santa Maria.
“We are very pleased to bring our all-classical format to listeners throughout the central coast,” Barnes said. “It is also exciting to be joining our fellow public radio station KCBX, whose programming will remain the same, in offering listeners a wide array of choices.”
Broadcasting on KGDP will begin when the Federal Communications Commission has approved the sale. The broadcast facility is located in Santa Maria and offers KUSC the potential of reaching about 250,000 new listeners 24 hours a day. KUSC is already serving more than 700,000 listeners in Southern California and beyond.
Classical KUSC, the largest nonprofit classical music station in the country, is dedicated to preserving classical music as a living art.
Located in downtown Los Angeles, the station uses digital transmission technology to broadcast commercial-free, uninterrupted classical performances.
