A death human swine influenza case in Tuen Mun Hospital
A 43-year-old female patient, who was a chronic smoker, developed flu symptoms on 23 August and attended the Designated Flu Clinic on 24 August. The patient attended the Accident & Emergency Department of TMH on 26 August and was admitted to the Isolation Ward. The test for human swine influenza was confirmed positive result of human swine influenza was confirmed on the same day (August 26).
(Media-Newswire.com) - Tuen Mun Hospital ( TMH ) spokesperson made the following announcement regarding the death of a critical human swine influenza patient today ( August 30 ):
A 43-year-old female patient, who was a chronic smoker, developed flu symptoms on 23 August and attended the Designated Flu Clinic on 24 August. The patient attended the Accident & Emergency Department of TMH on 26 August and was admitted to the Isolation Ward. The test for human swine influenza was confirmed positive result of human swine influenza was confirmed on the same day ( August 26 ). The patient received Tamiflu, Relenza and antibiotics treatment. Her condition deteriorated and she was transferred to Intensive Care Unit on 26 August. She was in critical condition requiring ventilation support. Her condition continued to deteriorate and convalescent serum was given on 29 August. The patient was succumbed at 00:17am today ( August 30 ).
The case was reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and Centre for Health Protection. TMH have informed her family and will refer the case to Coroner.
