(Media-Newswire.com) - Russlynn Ali, assistant secretary for the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education, will deliver the keynote address to the 2010 National Legislative Advocacy Conference sponsored by the Magnet Schools of America at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1012 14th St., N.W., in Washington.
Magnet schools are elementary and secondary public schools of choice. They use public funds and serve as models for school improvement, providing students an opportunity to succeed academically while learning in a racially diverse environment.
Assistant Secretary Ali will discuss the administration's support for magnet schools, as evidenced by its proposed 10 percent increase in the FY 2011 budget, along with the historically important role that magnets have played in providing both excellent educational opportunities and diverse learning environments.
