The blast at the Middletown, Connecticut power plant was owned by the company Kleen Energy. The plant was not fully operating as it was under construction when the blast happened today at around 11 A.M. EST.
Local residents were being told to stay away from the area. Helicopters and emergency vehicles have been seen leaving and arriving at the facility all day.
The blast was reportedly felt from as far away as Long Island which is just across the Long Island Sound. Some local residents thought the explosion was from an earthquake.
