Fisherman in the Louisiana area where the oil is drifting to were hurrying to save shrimp and other fish as the oil comes towards the shore. The area affected is the same as was devistated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The oil spill was coming from the ocean floor and spilling more oil than originally expected. Many area residents were apprehensive that the government would be able to fix the problem due to the poor response after Hurricane Katrina.
The spill could exceed the Exxon Valdez in terms of the amount of destruction and loss. The cleanup is expected to cost billions of dollars and take months.
Crews were trying to contain the moving oil slick with portable barriers. Two wildlife nature preserves are in the direct path.
