MSU faculty, staff, students can register for 2010 World Stem Cell Summit
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University faculty, staff and students have the opportunity to take part in the 2010 World Stem Cell Summit, to be held in Detroit on Oct. 4-6 and hosted in part by MSU, University of Michigan, Wayne State University and the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
(Media-Newswire.com) - EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University faculty, staff and students have the opportunity to take part in the 2010 World Stem Cell Summit, to be held in Detroit on Oct. 4-6 and hosted in part by MSU, University of Michigan, Wayne State University and the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
The conference, organized by the non-profit Genetics Policy Institute, will take place at the Detroit Marriott in the Renaissance Center. It will attract more than 1,200 of the most influential stem cell stakeholders from more than 30 countries representing the fields of science, business, policy, law, ethics and advocacy.
There will be more than 150 internationally renowned speakers, producing a unique international network designed to foster collaborations, economic development, technology transfer, commercialization, private investment and philanthropy.
Two MSU professors will be giving presentations during the summit:
Tim Collier, professor of translational science and molecular medicine in the College of Human Medicine and director of the Morris K. Udall Center of Excellence in Parkinson's Disease Research will be speaking on stem cell progress on Parkinson's disease; 2:30 p.m. Oct. 5. Jose Cibelli, professor in the departments of Animal Science and Physiology and director of the MSU Cellular Reprogramming Laboratory, will speak on pluripotency; 10:30 a.m. Oct. 6. The registration deadline for the summit is Oct. 1. Students and post-docs can register at a reduced rate of $225. However, a limited amount of funding to support graduate student and post-doc participation will be available from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies. The 2010 World Stem Cell Summit will be the sixth annual conference organized by the Genetics Policy Institute. Previous summits have taken place in Houston, Palo Alto, Boston, Baltimore and Madison, Wis.
