Mayor Gray & Ward 5 Community Members to Open Renovated New York Avenue Recreation Center and Playground

Gray, Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Jesús Aguirre, Department of General Services (DGS) Director Brian Hanlon, Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, and Ward 5 community leaders will gather for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at New York Avenue Recreation Center and Playground.

Gray, Department of Parks and Recreation ( DPR ) Director Jesús Aguirre, Department of General Services ( DGS ) Director Brian Hanlon, Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, and Ward 5 community leaders will gather for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at New York Avenue Recreation Center and Playground.
The ceremony will begin the Mayor's regular Biweekly Press Briefing.
WHEN: Wednesday, August 8, 2012 10:00 am
WHERE: New York Avenue Recreation Center and Playground Corner of 1st and N Streets NW
BACKGROUND: The renovation project included repairing existing play equipment; installing landscaping and play surfaces on the playground; complete renovations of the recreation center’s interior, roof, and HVAC systems; and other updates and upgrades. The recreation center and playground are located within easy walking distance of the Truxton Circle, Mount Vernon Square and NoMa neighborhoods and are adjacent to the site of the new Dunbar Senior High School.
Light refreshments will be served at the ceremony.
