University signs scholarships contract with Ford Motor Company worth £100,000
Engineering students on selected courses at the University of Bradford will soon be able to apply for ten scholarships from Ford, each worth £10,000.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Engineering students on selected courses at the University of Bradford will soon be able to apply for ten scholarships from Ford, each worth £10,000.
Ford celebrated 100 years in the UK during 2011 and to mark this occasion the company is joining forces with twelve leading UK universities with which the company has had a long-standing academic partnership. The University of Bradford will receive £100,000 to award to its engineering students in the form of scholarships.
Professor Alastair Wood, Dean of the School of Engineering, Design & Technology, said: "To receive such an award is a wonderful affirmation of the outputs that Bradford produces in terms of both employable graduates and transferrable research knowledge, and to be the only University in the North of England to be included in the Ford Blue Oval Scholarship Scheme is indeed a privilege."
Students entering the first-year of degree courses this September in selected courses linked to Mechanical, Automotive, and Electrical Engineering will be able to apply for these scholarships.
Bradford has a long connection with Ford spanning 20 years. EDT's former Dean, Professor Andrew Day, is the Ford Professor of Quality Engineering. The School's automotive laboratories have had several vehicles donated to the University for student projects and research activity, and most recently the School has embarked upon a training programme for senior Ford engineers.
The University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Cleary, has now signed the contract and the scholarships will be awarded towards the end of 2012.
