(Media-Newswire.com) - The New York City Housing Authority will host its 49th Annual Garden and Greening Awards Ceremony to highlight the beautification and environmental education program that benefits NYCHA residents, as well as senior, community and day care centers citywide. A panel of horticulture professionals were the judges for the gardens, selecting winners in the categories of best flower, vegetable and children’s/theme gardens for each borough, as well as citywide.
This year NYCHA worked with more than 2,800 adults and youth resident gardeners who apply their “green thumb” to 664 gardens at more than 200 developments across the city. Their gardens are a reflection of the diversity found in New York City, with gardeners originating from Western Africa, South and Central America, Eastern and Southern Asia, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean, among other regions.
