(Media-Newswire.com) - Three outstanding cross country athletes will represent Silver Lake College of the Holy Family at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association ( USCAA ) National Championships in Lake Placid, New York on November 9, 2012.
Representing the Laker Men is Mayville High School standout Brian “BJ” Ropel. A freshman with multiple top twenty finishes this year, BJ earned a season best 10th place finish at the Beloit College Olde English Classic in September. He also garnered national recognition, being named the USCAA Runner of the Week for his efforts the second week of that month. The Laker Women will be represented by Roncalli High School alum Mary Bettag and Green Bay Preble graduate Taylor Vanden Plas. Cross Country Coach Ryan Roberts is very proud of his athletes. “Mary and Taylor are peaking at just the right time of the season. Both ran personal best times in their last 6k race. The pair consistently pushes each other to do their best - Mary holds the team best time at the 6k distance and Taylor the team best time at the 5k distance.” Each of these students excels in the classroom as well as on the cross country course. Ropel is majoring in Biology/Pre-Med and Bettag and Vanden Plas are both majoring in Theology. Silver Lake College wishes its athletes the best of luck at Nationals!
