(Media-Newswire.com) - Build on skills you learned in your old job with new skills that lead to jobs in the high-demand industries of mechatronics and cyber technology in just a year’s time under two new programs beginning in January at Anne Arundel Community College.
Mechatronics combines mechanics, electronics and software, making a mechatronics technician a high-tech jack of all trades. Machines developed in the 21st century have both mechanical and electronic parts, so industry requires technicians who know both disciplines. Examples of mechatronics systems include robotics, smart cars, renewable energy systems, advanced manufacturing and defense systems. At the end of the yearlong certificate program, students will be eligible to take exams for the Siemens Level 1 certification and the Solid Works Associate certification.
The cyber technology training allows students to develop their business and information technology skills qualifying graduates for jobs in cyber customer service and technical support. Participants have the opportunity to sit for four industry-recognized certification exams: Cisco CCNA, CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+.
Information sessions on Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 will explain the credit programs and how they work. All information sessions are offered from noon to 1 p.m. in the Center for Applied Learning and Technology Room 350 on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Please contact the program coordinators below with the date that best fits your schedule.
AACC's new programs are aimed primarily at unemployed or displaced workers and were developed with funding from a grant awarded to the National STEM Consortium ( NSC ) and 10 leading community colleges in nine states under the U.S. Department of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Act ( TAA ) grant program. The goal of the grant is to develop certificate-level programs in science, technology, engineering and math ( STEM ) that could be implemented nationwide to meet critical labor market needs.
