(Media-Newswire.com) - Four Utah State University football players are headed to the second annual Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game, played at Kino Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., Friday Jan. 11
The four Aggies include senior tight end Kellen Bartlett, senior wide receiver Matt Austin, senior linebacker Bojay Filimoeatu and senior defensive lineman Al Lapuaho.
The 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game is the second annual post-season football exhibition of draft eligible college seniors. The game provides a platform for selected, elite athletes to showcase their talents to scouts from the NFL, CFL and Arena teams. Following the inaugural Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game in 2012, 67 players were signed to NFL contracts.
In all, Utah State now has six football players participating in all-star games this year. Senior running back Kerwynn Williams will play in the 2013 East-West Shrine Game Jan. 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., while senior cornerback Will Davis will play in the 2013 Senior Bowl Jan. 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Both the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl will be televised live on the NFL Network ( Comcast Ch. 180, Dish Network Ch. 154, DirectTV Ch. 212 ).
Bartlett, a 6-2, 248-pound senior tight end from Blue Springs, Mo. ( Blue Springs HS ), earned honorable mention all-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2012, finishing the season with 38 receptions for 272 yards and five touchdown catches, which ranked tied for first on the team.
Overall, Bartlett’s five touchdown receptions ranked first in the WAC among tight ends, while his 38 receptions ranked second and his 272 receiving yards ranked third.
Austin, a 6-2, 202-pound senior wide receiver from Monrovia, Calif. ( Charter Oak HS/Mt. San Antonio JC ), earned second-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2012 as he finished the season leading the team in receptions ( 48 ) and receiving yards ( 729 ), and tying for first with five receiving touchdowns. His 56.1 receiving yards per game average ranked ninth in the WAC.
Filimoeatu, a 6-1, 258-pound senior linebacker from West Valley City, Utah ( Granger HS/Mt. San Antonio JC ), finished his senior season ranking sixth on the team with 71 tackles. He also had 9.0 tackles for loss to rank second on the team, while his 5.0 sacks tied for third overall. Filimoeatu also registered a team-best 11 quarterback hurries in 2012 to go along with two pass breakups, one forced fumble and one interception that he returned 48 yards.
Lapuaho, a 6-3, 284-pound senior defensive lineman from West Valley City, Utah ( Granger HS/Snow College ), earned first-team all-WAC honors in 2012, leading all USU defensive linemen and finishing the year ranking 10th on the team with 35 tackles, along with 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, four quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one pass breakup. Lapuaho is the first Aggie defensive lineman to earn first-team all-conference honors since John Chick in 2005.
The Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks and available to watch live on ESPN3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ( MT ).
