Registration now open for the Midwest Manure Summit

One cow alone creates about 54,000 pounds ( 6460 gallons ) of manure over the course of a year. Handling manure is a challenge for any dairy or livestock producer. A variety of technologies and strategies are used today to handle and process manure. What are some of the new options available to farms? Where have they worked? Are they applicable here? These are some of the questions that will be tackled at the 2013 Midwest Manure Summit.
University of Wisconsin-Extension will host the Midwest Manure Summit, which will take place on Feb. 26 – 27, 2013. For these two days, the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Green Bay will be the meeting place of dairy and livestock producers, government agency workers, agribusiness professionals, and educators as we take a closer look at the processing and handling of manure.
Speakers from near and far will be on hand to bring their knowledge and expertise right here to Wisconsin. Main topics and speakers include:
– Best Management Practices for Reducing Odor and Emissions on Midwest Dairies; Richard Stowell, P.E. PhD, University of Nebraska
– Dairy Manure Biochar as a Phosphorus Fertilizer; Dr. Keri Cantrell, USDA- ARS
– Myths & Misconceptions of Digesters; Dr. Daniel Zitomer, Marquette University
– Resource Concerns and Dairy Manure Management; John Ramsden, P.E. NRCS
– What Have We Learned About Using Recycled Manure Solids for Bedding? Dr. Marcia Endres, University of Minnesota
Many other breakout sessions will be held throughout the conference. These session topics include digester economics, manure storage structure design, safety hazards, phosphorus removal, and pathogens in manure. In addition to these great presentations, the conference registration also includes meals, breaks, and proceedings.
