DEC to Extend Public Comment Period for CWM Draft Permit Renewal
The public comment period for a permit renewal application received from CWM Chemical Services, LLC for its facility in Model City, Niagara County, is extended by 60 days and will now close March 29, 2013, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced today.
(Media-Newswire.com) - The public comment period for a permit renewal application received from CWM Chemical Services, LLC for its facility in Model City, Niagara County, is extended by 60 days and will now close March 29, 2013, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced today. The public comment period on the draft permit began November 28, 2012 and was originally set to expire on January 28, 2013.
In addition, a legislative public hearing to accept public comments on CWM's permit renewal will be held:
Date: Monday, January 14, 2013 Time: Two sessions will be held, one at 5:00 pm and the second at 7:00 pm Location: Lewiston-Porter High School, 4061 Creek Road, Youngstown, NY 14174
A public availability session will be held on January 14, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm prior to the legislative public hearing. In the event that the High School is closed for the day or closes early due to inclement weather on January 14, 2013, the hearing and availability session will be held on January 16, 2013 at the same times.
Comments will be accepted both verbally and in writing at the public hearing. It is not necessary to attend the hearing to submit a written comment.

CWM currently owns and operates a commercial facility for the treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous and industrial non-hazardous wastes on an approximately 710-acre site in the towns of Lewiston and Porter in Niagara County, NY. Wastes accepted at this facility are ultimately either disposed of in an on-site landfill or shipped to another appropriate facility for further processing and/or disposal. CWM currently operates under a required Part 373 Hazardous Waste Permit. If renewed, this permit will not authorize any expansion to CWM's currently operating hazardous waste landfill ( RMU-1 ) or any new landfills.
