The program will include community master classes open to the public, choreography composition and a lecture demonstration. GCC dance students, as well as community dancers, are invited to participate in the hour-long master class, which will focus on intermediate and advance-level contemporary and modern dance techniques. Following the master class, GCC dance students will learn choreography directed by Sasha Mallory.
GCC students and the public are invited to attend a lecture demonstration led by Sasha Mallory at the end of the residency. The lecture demonstration will outline her experience, influences and expertise in the field of dance. In addition, students will perform their choreography developed during the residency. At the conclusion of the lecture demonstration, a Q&A session will provide an opportunity for students and the community to pose questions.
Danielle Horn, a professional dancer who has performed with the Radio City Rockettes, will also offer classes to GCC dance students and to the Phoenix/Tucson dance community during the month of January. Danielle earned her Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in dance and business from the University of Arizona and is currently pursuing her master's degree in arts management at George Mason University.
"It's exciting for our dance department to be able to host guest residencies with these two nationally known dancers," said Andrea Hashim, director of the GCC dance program.
"It is extremely rare that community colleges are able to offer these types of residencies; we are very pleased to offer them to the community," she continued.
