(Media-Newswire.com) - Albany, NY ( January 22, 2013 ) - The State Labor Department today released local area unemployment rates for December 2012, which are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state's unemployment rate relies in part on the results of a telephone survey of 3,100 households ( out of more than 7 million ) in New York State.
The state's private sector job count increased by 123,200 from December 2011 to December 2012. As reported last week, the state's unemployment rate was 8.2% in December 2012. New York State's rate has plummeted since August 2012, dropping by 0.9 percentage points. This represents the state's largest four-month rate drop since February 1984.
