(Media-Newswire.com) - A group exhibition of new work by the Los Angeles Experimental Artists Group 2 will be featured in the Antelope Valley College Art Gallery Feb. 4-22. The gallery is located in Fine Arts Building 1 on the west side of campus, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster. The group is made up of seasoned experimental artists who have worked in many media and whose members continually learn new methods, according to curator David Babb.
This year the artists are uniting around the theme of “Dwellings,” incorporating many different media and techniques.
“Dwellings” may evoke conceptions of abodes, buildings, and homes, but this theme also includes nature, such as the seasons and the growth of living things, according to Babb. Thus the group explores the broad theme to consider the various “dwells” that exist within the mind, heart, body and dreams.
One of the show’s artists is Marilyn Jordan.
“As an experimental artist, I sometimes begin with a vision and plan, but most often I just dig in and watch what transpires as the piece reveals itself to me. I love addressing the series of perpetual dilemmas and puzzles that must be solved as an art piece evolves in unexpected and surprising ways,” said Jordan.
Another one of the artists is Ulrica Bell, daughter of famed Ashcan School painter Ulric Bell.
“I am interested in stimulating thought and surprise in the viewer and myself,” said Bell, whose work has branched out from collage into assemblage, altered books, shrines and objects incorporating collage techniques.
A reception for the artists, including a talk by the artists, will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. Gallery exhibitions are free and open to the public.
Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Call ( 661 ) 722-6300, ext. 6215 for details.
