(Media-Newswire.com) - Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992, originally a one-woman show by Anna Deveare Smith, opens the spring productions for USI Theatre on Friday, February 22. This documentary drama is based on eyewitness accounts of the 1992 Rodney King trial and verdict. Smith uses direct statements made by those who experienced the Los Angeles riots and the devastating human impact of the event. Seven students in USIís production will transform into the different individuals interviewed during and after the riots, with no boundary of sexuality, race, or ethnicity.
Much of the prep work for the production, including casting, occurred via email and telephone conferences. The online collaboration helped USI student designers in understanding working relationships in todayís theatre industry. The all-student design team include Kylie Dishman, as costume designer; Lakysha Williams, as lighting designer; Ivy Thomas, as scenic designer; Michael Frohbieter, as sound designer; and Mikael Drobny, as projection designer. Elliot Wasserman, chair for the Department of Performing Arts, stepped in as supervisor for the completion of the production.
The cast includes USI students Anachebe Asomugha, Scott Cummings, Shawnte Gaston, Bridgette Hoover, Antonio King, Michele Rose, and Danielle Scott.
