Swimming and Diving Sends Eight to NCAA National Championship
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. â€" The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving program will send eight swimmers, one female and seven males, to the NCAA National Championship, held in Geneva, Ohio at the SPIRE Institute from March 12-15.
(Media-Newswire.com) - FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving program will send eight swimmers, one female and seven males, to the NCAA National Championship, held in Geneva, Ohio at the SPIRE Institute from March 12-15.
Lauren Chapple ( Jr., London, England ) will represent the women's team at nationals after being invited for the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:24.59. Chapple will have a busy weekend, competing in a total of four events. She was also invited to compete in the 200-yard IM, the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly. In addition, Emma Lawrenz ( Jr., Minnetonka, Minn. ) was selected as an alternate in the 100-yard freestyle race.
The men were led by Marco Aldabe ( Fr., Alicante, Spain ) who earned NSU's only A cut time in the 400- IM with a time of 3:52.96. That time was less than a second off the fastest time in the nation in that event, posted by a fellow freshman in Lindenwood's Felix Eigel. Aldabe was honored as a qualifier in the 200- IM, 100 and 200-yard backstroke. He has also qualified in the 400-yard freestyle relay event.
NSU's men's team had two additional qualifiers in the 400- IM in Oscar Aldabe ( Sr., Alicante, Spain ) and Cameron Chambers ( Sr., St. Petersburg, Fla. ). The two seniors earned a trip to nationals with times of 3:56.77 and 3:56.97, respectively. Aldabe was also invited to participate in the 200-yard IM and backstroke events. Chambers was invited to three additional events in the 100-yard, 500-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle.
Along with the younger Aldabe, juniors Shane Kleinbeck ( San Antonio, Texas ) and Magnus Lundgren ( Stockholm, Sweden ) qualified in the 400- free relay. Individually, Kleinbeck was invited to compete in the 100, 200 and 500- free events. Lundgren was invited to compete in the 100 and 50-yard freestyle as well as the 100-yard butterfly.
Rounding out the Sharks traveling to Geneva are seniors Florian Mehlan ( Moers, Germany ) and Esau Simpson ( St. David's, Grenada ). Mehlan qualified in the 200- free with a time of 1:38.13. Mehlan was also invited for the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events. Simpson qualified in the 50- free with a time of 20.34. He was also invited to compete in the 100- free.
