WKU to participate in statewide tornado safety drill March 5
WKU will participate in the statewide tornado safety drill on Wednesday (March 5). At approximately 9:07 a.m., WKU will test its emergency communications network, including the outdoor warning speakers and emergency text messaging system.
(Media-Newswire.com) - WKU will participate in the statewide tornado safety drill on Wednesday ( March 5 ). At approximately 9:07 a.m., WKU will test its emergency communications network, including the outdoor warning speakers and emergency text messaging system.
This is an informational drill only and WKU will maintain normal activities during this test. As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, the National Weather Service, partnering with Kentucky Emergency Management and Kentucky Broadcasters Association, will conduct a tornado test message that will activate NOAA weather radios and broadcast media statewide.
WKU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to use this drill as an opportunity to learn where to seek shelter in their residence halls, classrooms, offices and other campus locations and also to make sure they are signed up for emergency text alerts through TopNet.

Severe weather alerts In the event of severe storm warnings for Warren County, tune to local weather reports on TV, radio or online, follow @wkunews on Twitter, check the WKU StormTopper Network page ( or follow StormTopper Network on Twitter or on Facebook ) or the National Weather Service’s Louisville forecast office or @NWSLouisville.
If a tornado warning is issued for Warren County, the WKU Police Department will activate WKU’s outdoor warning system and send an emergency text message to students, faculty and staff who have signed up for WKU’s emergency text alert system. To sign up or verify you are enrolled with the proper cell phone number, log into your WKU TopNet account.
