Garden Party Raises $55,000 for OCC Culinary Students
The Garden Party Foundation celebrated its sixth annual The Garden Party event June 8 at Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester Hills, featuring food from Michigan’s best restaurants and 100 of the finest wines. More than 700 people attended this year’s event.

Proceeds benefited Oakland Community College Culinary Studies Institute and the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan, with $55,000 donated to each organization and $20,000 donated to Children’s Tumor Foundation.
“The Culinary Studies Institute provides aspiring chefs a solid foundation to launch their careers,” said OCC Chancellor Timothy Meyer. “Our culinary students win awards at regional and national competitions and go on to become successful chefs and business owners. We are grateful for our partnership with The Garden Party Foundation and their generosity in supporting OCC’s Culinary Studies Institute.”
Elizabeth and Sydney L. Ross, along with Lewis Cooper, founders of The Garden Party Foundation and owners of Great Lakes Wine and Spirits, presented Meyer with check on August 13 at the residence of Elizabeth and Sydney Ross in Bloomfield Township. Next year’s Garden Party will be held on June 7, 2015.

Oakland Community College's Culinary Studies Institute provides students with hands-on experiences in one of the largest facilities of its type, with quality instruction by award-winning faculty. The OCC Culinary Studies Institute is Michigan’s premier hospitality school. The largest of the Institute’s programs, Culinary Arts, gives students a combination of classroom and hands-on experience. In addition to extensive time in kitchen labs cooking and baking, students learn specialties such as ice carving and wine and spirits. Students also participate in such special events as the Wassail Feast and also operate the Ridgewood Café, the program's restaurant located at the Orchard Ridge Campus.
