Investment in Online Tutoring Platform Shows Growth in the Edtech Sector
On completing a round of Series A funding, online tutoring company Cluey Learning has raised $20 million, showing a strong interest from investors in the educational technology sector.
(Media-Newswire.com) - The education technology ( edtech ) sector in Australia has been growing over the last twenty years or so, as it has elsewhere across the globe. A new round of investment for Cluey Learning, an online tutoring company, demonstrates that interest in the industry is growing too.
Online learning offers a range of benefits to students of all ages. Having access to educational materials and to educators online makes learning available to all who have an internet connection. Online learning helps to close the gaps and problems that might exist related to distance, time and even finances when it comes to accessing quality education.
At school, teachers are often not capable of giving individual students the attention that they require, especially with increased workloads. Students do not get the one-on-one attention that many of them need, which can leave them lagging behind their classmates or failing to reach their full potential. Tightened budgets in schools has made it even more difficult for Australian students to receive the help that they require. Cluey is one of the services using digital technology to give students the support that they need.
Chief executive Mark Rohald said: “The school classroom concept is over 100 years old – it’s a factory model. It’s very hard for one teacher to tailor learning to every child’s specific needs, prior knowledge, and interests. Cluey enhances and complements school-based learning – we partner with parents and students to support each individual child’s learning journey.”
As with other industries, the use data analytics has been a significant turning point in the edtech sector. Cluey Learning is just one company that is making use of analytics to improve their product and offer a better learning experience to students. The technology that Cluey uses can inform them about whether certain learning methods are working for their students, so that approaches can be adjusted to provide for students' individual needs.
“Our analytics provide a “lesson map” that tells us exactly what content was covered in every lesson, how far each student has progressed through their tutoring program, the pace of learning and levels of mastery.” says Cluey Chief Learning Officer Dr Selina Samuels.
Cluey Learning will be using their funding to develop their learning platform and analytics capabilities. They will be expanding their curriculum to provide more learning material for their students and working on making their lessons more interactive and engaging. Expanding their learning methods and their reach will help Cluey Learning to make tutoring available to students across Australia.
