Budding entrepreneurs and those who have just started a business are invited to the first Swindon Enterprise Fair on Wednesday 15 November at the University of Bath in Swindon (11am-3.30pm).
(Media-Newswire.com) - The fair will bring together support that is available to new enterprise in Swindon, with exhibits from organisations that provide business support and from up to 40 businesses that have benefited from their training, guidance and networking opportunities.
The event marks Women’s Enterprise Day and is part of a week-long programme of local events to celebrate national Enterprise Week.
Up-and-coming entrepreneurs will have the chance to network and hear from business people about their experiences, in a series of informal My business story presentations running throughout the day. ( The half hour presentations will run at 11am, 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm ).
One of the presentations, by entrepreneur Hubert Dias and consultant Roger Croft, will illustrate how a new idea can be taken to market. Mr Dias is producing new loudspeaker technology and is benefiting from Mr Croft’s expertise in commercialising new ideas.
To celebrate Women’s Day, many of the exhibitors at the event will be local entrepreneurs who have gone into business with the support of the University’s Women into Enterprise training programme, which focuses on marketing and business planning.
Exhibiting businesses include: Christmas gifts and greeting cards, French classes for school aged children, hypnotherapy, bespoke jewellery and party products.
Marc Braddock, Assistant Director at the University’s Business Hub, organisers of the event, said: “To be successful, people starting out in business need mentors and support networks. This event is about bringing together start-up businesses and organisations that can provide them with support and training.
“Around 100,000 small to medium sized firms close each year in the UK, partly because of poor financial management and planning, so easy access to training, expertise and networking is crucial.
“This is the first event of its kind at the University and we’ll be using the feedback to shape and make enterprise fairs for the future that will really serve local entrepreneurs with ideas for support and growth.”
The event is organised by the University’s Business Hub and partners Swindon Borough Council, Business Link, Cooperative Futures, the South West Regional Development Agency and others.
It runs in the University Hall at the Oakfield campus between 11am-3.30pm and refreshments will be provided.
