Local people invited to shape theatre in Swindon and Wiltshire
People with an interest in local theatre in Swindon and Wiltshire have the chance to shape its future, at a day of discussion and debate hosted by TheatreWorks on Thursday 30 November.
(Media-Newswire.com) - TheatreWorks is a developmental partnership of theatre organisations across Wiltshire and Swindon, based at the University of Bath in Swindon.
The event at the Oakfield campus, entitled Who says theatre works? brings together over 100 people invited from all sectors of theatre to help set the agenda for the next phase of theatre development in the locality.
People taking part will include professional organisations and workers, the voluntary sector, young people and education institutions.
Hilary Garnham, Director of Arts and Development at ACE ( Arts Council England ) South West, will be a keynote speaker on the Theatre Locality Plan and its progress and direction.
Expert-led discussion groups will give people the chance to express their views and share experiences. Topics will include how to get more people watching theatre, how to get more companies and artists to work in the county and how to help young people to develop a career in the arts or theatre locally.
Deryck Newland, TheatreWorks Director said: “Who Says Theatre Works? is about consulting with all stakeholders to ensure the next phase of theatre development in Wiltshire and Swindon is owned by the grass roots theatre makers and workers. It is an opportunity to speak your mind, have your say and be an active part of strategy making rather than a passive recipient.
“It’s also about celebrating the achievement of the first two years of TheatreWorks. It has rapidly established itself as a dynamic and visible resource for the theatre community in this locality and beyond. The immense value of this strategic voice seems to be well recognised by the steering group and stakeholders.
“Over the coming phases and in particular through the maintained use of our new website, TheatreWorks should be well-placed to become a primary focal point for all with an interest in theatre, across the sectors and at all levels of engagement.”
The day will include presentations and displays from TheatreWorks’ funding and local theatre partners and give people the opportunity to meet and network.
Information from the day will be featured on the TheatreWorks website ( see Related Links ). The site is a comprehensive resource on local theatre, including details of performances, news, jobs, opportunities, directories of theatre practitioners, venues and forums.
