The internationalisation of higher education is gaining momentum and the University of Hull is forging links with China in order to promote the recognition of qualifications in different countries.
(Media-Newswire.com) - On Friday 24th November, the University of Hull welcomed over 30 representatives from China’s top universities. The delegates saw how the University is creating synergies with commerce when they visited the Logistics Institute and Design Enterprise Centre at the University’s Business School. In addition, the visitors had a tour of the campus including the Students’ Union and Brynmor Jones Library before the formal signing of a Progression Agreement. The aim of the Agreement is to strengthen the Hull/China collaboration on promoting SQA ( Scottish Qualifications Authority ) HND programmes.
Academic links were formed between the two nations in 2002 when Professor David Drewry, the University of Hull’s Vice Chancellor, met Professor Fang Maotian at Beijing University. On this visit, areas of common ground were identified and the two figureheads signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The Vice Chancellor has subsequently made four trips to China, visiting universities and government organisations including Hong Kong University, Beijing University, Environmental Research Centre of China and the Academies of Music and Science.
Professor Barry Winn, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise said: “Hull is already the destination of choice for students from over 100 countries, including some 400 Chinese students currently studying their degree programmes. As the relationship with China’s top Universities continues to flourish, we hope to develop further academic links for research, staff exchanges and the sharing of best practice initiatives.”
