United Airlines Offers Customers Its Top Three Travel Tips for the Holiday Season
CHICAGO, Dec. 13th United Airlines is offering three tips customers may want to consider to help make their travel experience more enjoyable this holiday season. United especially encourages customers traveling on weekends and holidays to take advantage of these tips. More travel tips are available on united.com.
(Media-Newswire.com) - TIP #1: SAVE TIME BY CHECKING IN BEFORE YOU GET TO THE TERMINAL -- EVEN IF YOU HAVE BAGS TO CHECK.
On united.com, customers can check in, select seats, confirm or request upgrades, add their Mileage Plus frequent flyer number, print a boarding pass, and check in for connecting flights and international outbound travel. Use the new united.com BagCheck -- after checking in online for U.S. domestic flights, customers may check their bags at the designated united.com BagCheck kiosks located near security and move quickly on to their gates. These united.com BagCheck kiosks are available in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Beginning December 16th, united.com BagCheck will be available in Boston, New York-LaGuardia, San Jose, and Seattle. Customers earn 500 Mileage Plus bonus miles each time they check in on united.com. Some airports, including United's Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco hubs, offer check-in from remote parking areas. Denver offers check-in at certain area hotels.
Tip #2: low extra time at the airport given the high number of travelers expected or if there is inclement weather in the area.
For travel within the United States, United typically recommends arriving 60 minutes before your flight if you are not checking bags and 90 minutes before your flight if you are checking bags. For international travel, United typically recommends arriving two hours before your flight. However, customers traveling from United's largest airports ( such as Chicago O'Hare, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington Dulles ) should consider arriving an additional 30 minutes earlier than these recommended times. Customers with electronic tickets can use Easy Check-in kiosks and curbside service to expedite airport check-in. If there is inclement weather, up-to-date flight arrival and departure information is available on united.com or by contacting reservations at 1-800-UNITED-1.
Tip #3: Prepare your bags for check-in and screening by the Transportation Security Administration ( TSA ) before arriving at the airport.
Leave your holiday gifts unwrapped until you reach your destination. If TSA needs to inspect an item it will unwrap the package, which is a hassle for the traveler and slows down the screening process for others. Remember the TSA's new "3-1-1 rule" for carry-on items: Any liquids, gels or aerosols you carry must be in 3-ounce-sized containers or smaller and placed in a single, one-quart, clear, zip-top plastic bag. This bag must be removed from your carry-on baggage and placed in a screening bin at the security checkpoint. One zip-top bag is allowed per customer. United's free checked-bag allowance includes two bags weighing no more than 50 pounds each. For bags heavier than 50 pounds, there is a $50 fee per bag. Customers traveling internationally are allowed two free checked bags each weighing up to 50 pounds. Exceptions are Brazil, Japan and Philippines, which have a 70 pound weight limit. Enclose a copy of your e-ticket receipt in each piece of checked baggage for quick and easy identification.
