(Media-Newswire.com) - Top executives from Schlumberger met with officials at Texas A&M University at Qatar to discuss research opportunities and the growing need for engineers in the energy industry worldwide.
Mark Weichold, dean and CEO of Texas A&M at Qatar, hosted the Schlumberger delegation and gave a presentation about the University, Education City and Qatar Foundation. Faculty in the Petroleum Engineering Program also made a presentation about the faculty's philosophy of using hands-on learning in training petroleum engineers. The presentation cited an uptick in the number of petroleum engineering graduates and the availability of jobs for graduates trained in that field.
"Schlumberger is a global leader in oilfield services, and we are excited about the prospect of partnering with them for research and for internship and career opportunities for our students," Weichold said.
The Schlumberger delegation included Andrew Gould, chief executive officer; Ashok Belani, chief technology officer; Jeff Spath, president of reservoir management; and David Farmer, Qatar country manager. The executives toured the Texas A&M Engineering Building with Weichold and a group of faculty, students and recent graduates.
