(Media-Newswire.com) - Texas A&M University tied for ninth place among public institutions in a new Forbes magazine survey that ranks earnings of alumni from around the country with 10 to 20 years of experience.
Texas A&M was the only Texas institution ranked among the top 10 public schools in a list dominated by University of California schools.
Mid-career earnings were measured because “starting salaries do not tell you a whole lot, but there is a real divergence in dollar terms as you go over the course of a career,” Al Lee, director of quantitative analysis at PayScale.com, says in the article on Forbes.com.
The median salaries among Texas A&M graduates were $49,700 for those with up to five years of experience and $96,100 for those with 10 to 20 years of experience. The median top salary among Texas A&M graduates was $171,000.
Dr. Elsa Murano, president of Texas A&M, says the study just reinforces what Texas A&M graduates already know – their degrees are extremely valuable.
“We are obviously pleased – but certainly not surprised – to see that our former students fare so well in the marketplace,” she says. “It’s certainly gratifying to see that employers recognize the value of a Texas A&M degree and the contributions our graduates bring to their firms.”
The magazine used information from Pa yScale.com, an online compensation comparison tool with a database that includes real-time salary data culled from 13 million unique compensation profiles. PayScale allows users to compare their salary online to other people with similar individual and job characteristics.
Only schools with more than 1,000 students enrolled were considered. The median salary figures are only for full-time employees and exclude anyone that went on to receive a graduate degree. Salary numbers include bonuses, commissions and profit sharing but not equity compensation.
Texas A&M tied with the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, for ninth place among the public schools.
