(Media-Newswire.com) - Identical twins, Thomas and Matthew Stankowski, have been accepted to study for degrees in integrated mechanical and electrical engineering at the University of Bath and will start their course this term.
The 18 year-old Bath Rugby fans from Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar School in London, both gained two As and two Bs at A-level, in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Computing, even though they did not study together.
Thomas explained: “There is a level of healthy competition between the two of us, which is a real spur for us to be successful.
“We are proud and pleased for each other when we do well.”
The pair, who are originally from Sidcup, have similar interests. They are keen rugby supporters and play in the same position ( centre ). They are hoping to make use of the University’s renowned facilities to play their sport on campus.
“We support Bath Rugby and are looking forward to watching some home games while we’re here,” said Matt, who is the older brother by a few minutes.
As part of the integrated masters course, which is run by the University’s Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, the students are offered year-long work placements. Graduates of the course are often in high demand when it comes to securing first jobs.
Matt said: “We chose Bath as we came to visit and loved the City. It was the nicest campus we saw.
“We also thought the degree course was excellent and presented good prospects.”
The University has a history of inspiring successful identical twins. Last year, Hannah and Louisa Jeffrey graduated with first class degrees in biochemistry, while Nikhil and Nehal Mehra gained first class degrees in Economics.
Thomas and Matthew will join around 2400 new first year undergraduate students for their University inductions at the end of September.
