(Media-Newswire.com) - Carrol and Mary Jane Buttnil have donated $50,000 to establish two Carrol and Mary Jane Buttnill ’38 Endowed Opportunity Awards to help freshman Aggies pay for their education.
The four year scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and financial need. The recipient must be attending the Mays College of Business.
Carrol O. Buttrill was a chemical engineering graduate, class of ’38. His son, grandson and two step-sons are also A&M graduates. As a young student, Buttrill also received help for his education. He retired after a successful 43-year career with Mobil Corp and believed in sharing his good fortune with young people who need assistance to further their education.
The Texas A&M Foundation helps former students, friends, corporations and other non-profit organizations direct contributions to specific academic and leadership programs. Its asset managers ensure that endowments like the Carrol and Mary Jane Buttnill ’38 Endowed Opportunity Awards retain or grow in value over time so that Aggies will benefit well into the future.
Donors may direct their gifts, large or small, to an existing scholarship fund or design and name their own scholarship. Scholarships can be set up as endowments, which are designed to provide funds in perpetuity. Donors may also choose to fund a non-endowed scholarship, in which the gift provides the scholarship stipend on a one-time basis.
