(Media-Newswire.com) - The University of Bath has drafted a Masterplan outlining proposals for the development of its campus. Staff, students, key stakeholders, and the people of Bath are invited to give their views and comments on the plan from Monday 27 October.
The draft Masterplan sets out the University’s vision for the development of its Claverton Campus from 2008-2020.
Two previous rounds of stakeholder consultations, the results of a detailed transport study and an ecological assessment survey have all informed the development of the plan.
The University believes the Masterplan strikes the right balance between the growth required to maintain the University’s academic position, and the protection of the best features of the campus.
University Architect, Professor Alan Day, explains the need for campus expansion: “Our success in research and our increasing popularity with students has meant that we have grown steadily since 2001.
“The need to refurbish the University’s ageing infrastructure, and to respond to changing student expectations has resulted in unprecedented pressure on our existing space.
“This draft Masterplan is designed to provide additional academic, social and residential space while improving the overall environment of the campus.”
Jennifer Joynt, Project Officer in the University’s Vice Chancellor's Office, added: “The extensive consultation the University has already undertaken in the past year has resulted in a very well informed draft Masterplan.
“I hope that the stakeholders who engaged in our consultations will be able to see where their comments have had an influence, and appreciate that the plan offers a carefully balanced approach to development which doesn’t undermine the sensitive area that the University is located within.
“We are now inviting responses to the draft Masterplan using a variety of means to present the plans including exhibitions, meetings and the website.”

Questionnaires will be available to provide feedback at both locations. They will also be available online via the link above from Monday 27 October until Friday 7 November 2008.
The findings of the questionnaires will help to inform the final Masterplan which will then be submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council for its endorsement.
In endorsing the Masterplan, the Council is not approving any of the specific proposals. It will merely provide a framework for new building projects over the next 12 years.
As each project is brought forward it will be submitted for planning permission in the normal manner and this will provide a further opportunity for public comment.
