Student reporters will cover races for WRHU, Radio Hofstra University and Nassau News online
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University students ranging from print and online journalists to broadcasters will be reporting from various venues both on campus and in surrounding communities during this year’s Election Night.
Members of WRHU, Radio Hofstra University will begin their largest broadcasting night of the year at 6 p.m. with special editions of A League of Their Own and Long Island Community Spotlight. The night will continue with wall-to-wall location and national election coverage featuring interviews with candidates such as New York State Senator Kemp Hannon, Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, and Hempstead Town Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby. Students involved in online journalism classes will be operating from NewsHub, Hofstra’s state-of-the-art converged newsroom in Dempster Hall. Hofstra’s journalism students will be reporting from Nassau and Suffolk Counties as well as New York City throughout the day, interviewing voters about their candidate preferences. This information will be posted onto NassauNews.org/news, Hofstra's online news site.
At 7 p.m., students will begin an innovative hybrid live blog and video stream of the day’s election news in collaboration with student journalists from across the country, who will share their reports on Nassau News in real time. There will be taped video reports and a working information room feeding real-time news reports into the news presentation, as well as a live presence on social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. Students not reporting on the election will be able to view election returns during the Educate ’08 Election Night Returns Party from 7 -11 p.m. in the main dining room of the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus.
