(Media-Newswire.com) - Dayton Moore, senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager of the Kansas City Royals, will make an appearance on the campus of Benedictine College on Friday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. in the O’Malley-McAllister Auditorium. He comes to the college as part of its Sesquicentennial Speakers Series and will speak on “Winning with Integrity.”
Moore took the reins in Kansas City in 2006 and has brought slow but steady improvement to the team, which finished 75-87 this season and had regularly lost more than 100 games prior to his arrival. He had previously worked for the Atlanta Braves organization since 1994, most recently serving as assistant general manager/baseball operations since August of 2005. He was awarded the 2005 Executive of the Year by the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association and in February of 2006, the Braves’ 400 Club presented him with its Ivan Allen, Jr. "Mr. Baseball" Award. Baseball America magazine also named him as one of the Top 10 Up-and-Coming Power Brokers in Major League Baseball in 2005.
Benedictine College is in the midst of a year-long celebration of its 150th anniversary that includes this lecture series. Other speakers in the series have included Dave Goebel, former CEO of Applebee’s; Peter Brown, CEO of AMC Entertainment; Kathleen Blanco, former governor of Louisiana; and Bradley Smith, former chair of the Federal Election Commission. Still to come in the series are Christopher Vath, renowned pianist and composer, coming on November 19; and a joint presentation with Don Soderquist, former vice-chairman of Wal-Mart, and Sulaiman Al Fahim, CEO of Hydra Properties-Dubai, coming November 21. The college traces its roots in the area to 1858 and has a mission to educate men and women within a community of faith and scholarship.
