Engineering to hold two Caterpillar lectures Nov. 20

Ochoa, professor of mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Room 1505 of the Seamans Center. The talk will cover modeling as it applies to cellular material systems, including biomedical devices.
(Media-Newswire.com) - The UI College of Engineering Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering will host two free, public Caterpillar "On the Edge of Technology" lectures Thursday, Nov. 20.
"Multiscale Models for Multifunctional Materials" by Ozden O. Ochoa, professor of mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Room 1505 of the Seamans Center. The talk will cover modeling as it applies to cellular material systems, including biomedical devices.
"A Sequential Stochastic Security System Design Problem for Aviation Security" by Sheldon Jacobson, professor of computer science at the University of Illinois, will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Room W128 of the Chemistry Building. The talk will focus on passenger and carry-on baggage-screening operations in aviation security systems.
The Caterpillar lecture is made possible through grants awarded to the college through the UI Foundation by the Caterpillar Foundation of Peoria, Ill. The grants comprise the Caterpillar Excellence Fund, which aids students, faculty and curriculum development in the College of Engineering.
