NCDOT Permanently Closing Railroad Crossing in Franklin County
RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close the Winston Street (State Road 1207) railroad crossing near Franklinton on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Signs alerting motorists of the closure have been posted at the crossing.
(Media-Newswire.com) - RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close the Winston Street ( State Road 1207 ) railroad crossing near Franklinton on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Signs alerting motorists of the closure have been posted at the crossing.
The Winston Street crossing was identified for closure as part of an effort to reduce the number of redundant or unsafe rail/highway at-grade crossings throughout the state.
When possible, the department works with communities to close or consolidate dangerous or redundant crossings. Since 1993, NCDOT has closed more than 130 public at-grade rail crossings.
