Numerous UI authors make New York Times holiday 'Notable Books' list
Books by numerous University of Iowa-connected writers have been recommended in the New York Times Sunday Book Review's annual holiday "100 Notable Books" list. The list is selected from books reviewed during the past year.

The notable books include:
--"American Wife" by Iowa Writers' Workshop alumna Curtis Sittenfeld. --"A Better Angel" by workshop graduate Chris Adrian. --"The Boat" by workshop alumnus Nam Le. --"Elegy: Poems," by current workshop visiting faculty member Mary Jo Bang. --"Fanon" by John Edgar Wideman, another workshop alumnus. --"The Finder" by workshop alumnus Colin Harrison. --"Half of the World in Light: New and Selected Poems" by workshop alumnus Juan Felipe Herrera. --"Home," the follow-up to workshop faculty member Marilynne Robinson's Pulitzer Prize-winning "Gilead". --"Indignation" by former workshop faculty member Philip Roth. --"Modern Life: Poems" by Matthea Harvey, a workshop alumna who returned as a visiting faculty member last academic year. --"The Sacred Book of the Werewolf" by Russian author Victor Pelevin, a veteran of the UI International Writing Program. --"Sir Gawain and the Green Knight: A New Verse Translation" by former UI faculty member Simon Armitage. --"Sleeping It Off in Rapid City: Poems, New and Selected" by former workshop visiting faculty member August Kleinzahler. --"An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination," a memoir by workshop alumna and former visiting faculty member Elizabeth McCracken. --"While They Slept: An Inquiry Into the Murder of a Family" by workshop alumna Kathryn Harrison.
Times critic Janet Maslin also included "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle," by workshop alumnus David Wroblewski, on her personal "Books That Tower Above the Rest" list for the year.
