(Media-Newswire.com) - Most people know that they need to eat more fruits and vegetables, but for many, questions about how to choose, store and cook different fruits and vegetables keep them from trying the bountiful variety that the supermarket has to offer. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment ( KDHE ) and Fruits & Veggies—More Matters have a solution: the new Video Center at www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org.
Know how to choose a melon at its peak of ripeness? Looking for tasty new ways to use canned or dried fruit and vegetables? Find videos that answer these and many more produce questions online at the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters new Video Center. KDHE is pleased to link to the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters website from its own website, www.kdheks.gov/bhp/pan/.
The Video Center has a library of 275 videos featuring produce celebrity Michael Marks, Your Produce Man. Each of the videos is less than two minutes long. The videos show how to check different fruits and vegetables for ripeness, describe the proper ways to store fruits and vegetables at home, demonstrate fast and healthy recipe preparation, and offer many other fun and interesting fruit and veggie facts.
“The videos cover a variety of fruit and vegetable topics, from apples to zucchini, and are entertaining,” said Jennifer Church, Kansas Fruit and Vegetable Coordinator. “They offer advice in a video format in short segments so even individuals who don’t have a lot of time can watch and learn about preparing delicious, healthy foods.”
Launched in March 2007, www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org, the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters website, offers a wealth of nutrition information, selection and storage advice, recipes, shopping and meal planning advice, tips for increasing produce consumption, and an abundance of other useful information about fruits and vegetables. New content and enhancements are continuously being added to the site.
