(Media-Newswire.com) - Dancers from the University of Bath scooped fifth place in a prestigious national competition at the weekend ( 28 February ).
The University beat off 95 other student teams to come fifth in the Inter-varsity Dancesport Competition held in the Winter Gardens ballroom in Blackpool.
In addition Bath couple Daniel Taylor and Sarah Smith left others standing in winning their ballroom dances and being placed first in the tough intermediate ballroom final.
Fellow Bath students Wei Hao & Min Tian joined them in the final achieving sixth place.
In the Latin American category, Hayden Phyo & Nicole Hurley used their unstoppable energy to overhaul an extremely strong challenge from Imperial College and the other universities in the novice competition, securing yet another first place.
Head coach Paula Goodyear said she thought it was most successful result in the University’s 25 year history of Dancesport.
She said: “We were thrilled to be able to see so many of the dancing couples doing so well after all of their hard work this year.
“We would like to congratulate them all and thank them for all of the hard work they put in to achieve these fantastic results.
“Everyone seemed to bring out their best performances when it mattered and in some cases we left the other universities stunned.
“To win the extremely competitive individual events is very rare and demands so much time and commitment from students to dance at this level.
“The University should quite rightly be extremely proud of this year's highly successful Dancesport team, the team captains and the hard working committee who make all of the activities possible."
Their successes come just weeks after the University’s BodySoc dancers scooped a first place trophy in advanced jazz and a third place in novice hip hop at an annual dance competition in Loughborough.
