(Media-Newswire.com) - The Texas Lyceum announced today that the recipient of the group’s 2008 Stewardship of Texas Values Award is former President George H.W. Bush.
Past Texas Lyceum Chairs presented the honor to President Bush on Monday, March 9th at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum on the Texas A&M University campus.
"President Bush has given a lifetime of service to our country beginning with the day he joined the Navy on his 18th birthday, and continuing today as an energetic former President raising needed funds for Hurricane Katrina and Southeast Asia tsunami victims. In between, his accomplishments are vast: he has nobly served our state and nation as a Texas Congressman, U.S. Ambassador, CIA Director, Vice President and of course, during his time in the White House," said 2006 Lyceum Chair Jordan Cowman, who is also the award committee chair. "We are very proud to present him with the Stewardship of Texas Values Award."
"I am very pleased to receive this distinguished Stewardship of Texas Values Award," said President Bush, "and all the happier to salute the Texas Lyceum for their selfless efforts to engage the big issues and policymaking process in such a positive and productive way. We need more active involvement by leading citizens like you, so keep up the wonderful work."
The Stewardship of Texas Values Award ( SOTV ) was developed in 1988 to honor extraordinary Texans who best exemplify Texas values and who have served our state with distinction. Past recipients include Lady Bird Johnson, Lieutenant Governor Bill Hobby, world-renowned concert pianist and founder of the International Festival Institute James Dick, Southwest Airlines CEO Herb Kelleher, business executive Red McCombs, and philanthropists George and Ronya Kozmetsky, among others.
