(Media-Newswire.com) - Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – A panel of prominent Hofstra radio alumni will speak about the evolution of radio technology on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Hofstra University News Hub located in Dempster Hall on Hofstra’s South Campus.
The event, titled “From Analog to Automation,” is part of the ongoing Hofstra Radio Alumni Speakers Series leading up to the 50th anniversary celebration of radio at Hofstra University.
“This is an exciting panel because we are celebrating 50 years of radio at Hofstra and have paralleled many of the changes, both technical and legal, that have taken place in the industry,” says WRHU General Manager Bruce Avery.
Panelists include Andy Gladding, ’05, director of technology at Emmis NYC; Mike Kluger, ’83, director of broadcast operations and information technology at WNYE-FM; George Musgrave ’77, technical director at ABC News, NY; David Plotkin, ’04, production director at 1010 Wins; and Marc Wiener, ’70, former director of engineering at WCBS-TV and current president of the Hofstra Radio Alumni Association.
The panel will be moderated by Andrew Falzon, ’05, vice president of the Hofstra Radio Alumni Association and former WRHU station manager.
WRHU, Radio Hofstra University, is Long Island’s oldest non-commercial radio station, broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 88.7FM and online at www.wrhu.org. Founded in 1950 as a club, WHCH was limited to the Hofstra campus. In 1959, the station received an FCC broadcast license and became WVHC, the Voice of Hofstra College. In 1983 the station expanded its broadcast range and became WRHU.
