(Media-Newswire.com) - One hundred and eighty young people from schools across Bath and North East Somerset will play their part in a two-day conference on combating climate change, hosted at the University of Bath this week ( Thursday 18 June to Friday 19 June ).
They will create a ‘graffiti floor’ of pledges for positive action to tackle climate change and compose a conference song to perform at the end of the event.
The pupils will hear from local and national organisations, including Comic Relief, WaterAid, Send a Cow, Sustainable Frome and Wessex Water on climate change issues and new green technology, as well as taking part in workshops on renewable energy, food for the future and carbon footprints.
The year 9 and 10 pupils from 14 schools in B&NES will make team presentations on the topic of ‘2020 Vision’, giving their thoughts on how the world will respond to climate change. They will compete for a place in the grand final infront of Don Foster MP and other special guests.
The event is organised by Resource Futures, a local not-for-profit environmental consultancy, together with staff and students from Ralph Allen, St Gregory’s and Oldfield schools and the Outreach Team at the University of Bath.
Jane Talbot, Education Manager, from Resource Futures said: “The conference is an opportunity for young people to come together to talk about the crucial issues of climate change, find out how it affects people across the world and share and develop ideas on what they can do about it.
“At the end of the two days they will be ready to take back ideas for positive action to their home, school and community.”
“This is the third annual climate change conference and this year we have very much put the event in the hands of the young people themselves.”
