Maricopa Colleges Among Nation's Top Degree Producers
Seven individual Maricopa Community Colleges are among the nation's Top 100 Associate Degree and Certificate Producers for 2009, according to a listing by Community College Week magazine. GateWay, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale and South Mountain community colleges and Phoenix and Rio Salado colleges were all named in the special report, released as part of Community College Week's June 15 edition.
(Media-Newswire.com) - Seven individual Maricopa Community Colleges are among the nation's Top 100 Associate Degree and Certificate Producers for 2009, according to a listing by Community College Week magazine.
GateWay, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale and South Mountain community colleges and Phoenix and Rio Salado colleges were all named in the special report, released as part of Community College Week's June 15 edition.
Mesa Community College ranked 56th nationally for Associate Degrees awarded in all disciplines over the time frame, conferring 1,639 degrees in 2007-08. MCC was ranked 40th for Associate Degrees awarded to non-minority students among all disciplines with 1,215.
MCC was also 41st in the nation among the top 50 Associate Degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities with 910, and was tied for 31st in Associate Degrees for General Sales, Merchandising and Related Marketing Operations with 12.
Scottsdale Community College ranked 7th in the country in the Top 50 Associate Degrees in Communication Technologies/Technicians & Support Services with 58.
Glendale Community College ranked 29th in the nation's Top 50 Associate Degrees in Education with 70.
MCC and GateWay Community College were ranked in the Top 50 Associate Degrees in Nursing. They finished tied for 35th with 199 degrees each.
Five of the Maricopa Community Colleges were ranked in the Top 100 Two-Year Certificates in all disciplines:
Rio Salado College was 11th with 963 Mesa Community College was 12th with 957 Glendale Community College was 25th with 728 Scottsdale Community College was 28th with 700 Phoenix College was 39th with 610. Rio and PC were ranked in the Top 100 One-Year Certificates for all disciplines. Rio was ranked 6th in the nation with 2,566, while PC was ranked 100th with 658.
Five of the Maricopa colleges were ranked in the Top 100 Associate Degrees in all disciplines conferred to American Indian students.
Mesa Community College was 40th with 36 Phoenix College 48th with 30 Scottsdale Community College was 51st with 27 Glendale Community College was 63rd with 22 South Mountain Community College was 74th with 19 Phoenix College and Mesa Community College were ranked among the Top 100 colleges granting Associate Degrees in all disciplines conferred to Hispanic students. PC was 78th with 236, while MCC was 84th with 222.
A national independent biweekly published in Fairfax, Va., Community College Week annually presents a special issue on the nation's top Associate degree producers using data reported by institutions to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, or IPEDS, which is run by the National Center for Education Statistics.
